The Real Reason He Won’t Fight a Boxer

This is why I feel Jake Paul may never fight a boxer

Jake Paul is set to box yet another aging MMA Super Star in Anderson “Spider” Silva, and some of the MMA community is asking “Why won’t Jake Paul fight a boxer at his level?” I get why they are asking the question, but they know why, money.  You see Jake Pauls is all about making the most money possible, and celebrity fighting seems to be the new craze among casual fans of Boxing.  The casual fans are in it for the exciting knockouts, and that is something that Jake Paul delivers on. We cannot forget that boxing is a business and people like Jake Paul are in it to make money, I mean has he ever offered to fight anyone for free? No, and I honestly don’t expect him to. 

You see, for him to get the biggest paydays, he has to leverage his fame, and find a dance partner that has as much as or more cache than him.  This is what drives the fans to hand over their hard-earned money on the PPV.  You have to look no further than the fight with Hasim Rahman, Jr. There was no real “buzz” or hype behind that fight, and it wound up being canceled.  Yes, I know the “official” reason was that Rahman did not make weight, but honestly, that fight was D.O.A. 

Now let’s talk about reason number 2, his ego, you see if Jake loses to Silva, that won’t be a “death” blow to his ego, but if he loses to Rahman, career over.  Jake needs to be the center of attention, it not only feeds that fragile ego, but it helps build his brand. The brand he is meticulously using to bridge from boxer to promoter, the brand that allows him to sign fighters.  For all the talk about fighter pay, Jake never had to be a journeyman fighting on the undercard for scraps, he really doesn’t know the struggle, but he talks a good game.
